What are the three main reasons of shyness? According to one research, shyness can be a result of: extreme self-consciousness - being extremely aware of one's self, especially in social settings; extreme negative outlook on self - looks at self in a very negative way; and extreme negative self-preoccupation - pays very much attention to all wrongdoings especially when in company of other people. So you ask yourself "is overcoming my shyness possible?" The answer is yes. You just have to know the basics.

Overcoming my shyness - Causes

Surely there are a lot of people can relate to one or more category. But why do people experience shyness? Everyone feels shy at one point, although in different degrees but the real reason or the very root of its causes may be:

A weak image of self. Past experiences, especially during the early teenage years, can adversely affect people and this can result to shyness. Being bullied in elementary and high school can result to having a weak image of self. People have a natural tendency to believe that their uniqueness is not interesting to other people.
Self-preoccupation. Becoming very sensitive when surrounded by people. Feeling like the center of attention of all the people around and this become a downward spiral, making them negatively critical of self and conscious of all wrongdoings.
Labels. When you are labeled as a shy person, your tendency is to live up to that label.
Parents. Often the way that one have been treated by either or both parents can have a tremendous impact on one's self-esteem and self-image. If the experiences are negative, these can have lasting negative results.

Overcoming my shyness - How-to:

The very first thing that one should if one hopes to accomplish the task of overcoming my shyness would be to first try to think about and determine what and why one is shy. Similar to many other problems of the same nature, it is imperative to know exactly what the root cause is in order to solve the problem of shyness and accomplish overcoming my shyness.

Everyone has experienced shyness but in different levels and variations. Through your awareness and with some help, you can overcome this. Understand it and find out how it affects your life, what triggers it, etc. Be aware and keep in mind that people are not even looking at you; they may be busy with their thoughts to notice you. Then concentrate on your strengths. People are unique from one another.
